How to teach it
- Give the drill only once the facts have been taught: speed comes after understanding.
- Set a timer for the time on the sheet. Students answer what they can and skip what they cannot.
- Mark it with the key and write the score in the box.
- Repeat the same level a few times a week and compare scores against the student's own, not the class.
Questions teachers ask
- How many problems are on this worksheet?
- 100 on one page, with the answer key on the last page.
- What grade and standard is it for?
- Grade 3. Common Core: 3.OA.C.7. Alberta: Number 3.
- Can I print more than one version?
- Yes. Every version has different numbers and its own answer key. Use “Make another version” for a new one; the same version always prints the same.
- What is a mad minute?
- A one-minute timed sheet of basic facts. Students answer as many as they can in a minute, and track the score over time.
- What is a 100-problem fact grid?
- A 10 by 10 table with numbers along the top and side. Each cell is the top number and the side number combined with the operation in the corner, so one grid practises 100 facts.
