Questions teachers ask
- How many problems are on this worksheet?
- 12 on one page, with the answer key on the last page.
- What grade and standard is it for?
- Grade 7. Alberta: Number 2.
- Can I print more than one version?
- Yes. Every version has different numbers and its own answer key. Use “Make another version” for a new one; the same version always prints the same.
- Is it BEDMAS or PEMDAS?
- Both name the same rule. Canadian classrooms say BEDMAS: brackets, exponents, division and multiplication, addition and subtraction. US classrooms say PEMDAS: parentheses, exponents, multiplication and division, addition and subtraction. Multiplying and dividing are done together from left to right, and so are adding and subtracting.
- What grade learns the order of operations?
- Brackets come in around Grade 5, exponents in Grade 6, and integers in Grade 7. In Alberta, Grade 6 evaluates expressions with brackets and powers, and Grade 7 uses positive decimals.
