On this sheet

  • 5184 × 26 — answer: 134784
  • 6532 × 23 — answer: 150236
  • 6548 × 16 — answer: 104768

How to teach it

  1. Multiply the top number by the ones digit of the bottom number.
  2. Multiply the top number by the tens digit. Write a zero in the ones place first, because you are multiplying by tens.
  3. Add the partial products.
  4. Estimate first: 38 × 21 is about 40 × 20 = 800, so an answer of 7,980 needs another look.
