How to teach it
- Equivalent fractions: multiply or divide the numerator and the denominator by the same number.
- Comparing: with the same denominator, compare numerators; otherwise rewrite both over a common denominator.
- Adding and subtracting: the denominators must match first. Add or subtract the numerators and keep the denominator.
- Mixed numbers: add the wholes and the fractions, then regroup if the fraction part is one or more.

- What grade and standard is it for?
- Grade 5. Common Core: 5.NF.A.2.
