How to teach it
- Number bonds: the whole goes in the top circle, the two parts below. Two numbers you know give the third.
- Sorts: cut out the cards, decide where each belongs, then glue it in its column.
Questions teachers ask
- How many problems are on this worksheet?
- 1 on one page, with the answer key on the last page.
- What grade and standard is it for?
- Grade 3. Common Core: 3.NBT.A.1. Alberta: Number 1.
- Can I print more than one version?
- Yes. Every version has different numbers and its own answer key. Use “Make another version” for a new one; the same version always prints the same.
- What is a number bond?
- A picture of a number and two parts that make it: 10 at the top, 7 and 3 below. It shows that addition and subtraction are two views of one fact.
- Why use cut-and-paste sorts?
- Sorting asks students to decide and explain, not just compute, and handling the cards keeps younger students working with the idea for longer.
