Questions teachers ask
- How is a blank multiplication chart used?
- Students fill it in themselves, which shows the patterns: each row counts by its number, and the chart is the same on both sides of the diagonal because 3 × 8 = 8 × 3. The filled chart is the answer key.
- What is a ten frame?
- A 2 by 5 grid for showing numbers to 10 with counters. Students see 7 as 5 and 2, and as 3 less than 10, which builds number sense for adding and subtracting.
- What is the difference between a hundreds chart and a 120 chart?
- A hundreds chart shows 1 to 100 in rows of ten. A 120 chart continues to 120, which matches the Grade 1 Common Core goal of counting, reading and writing to 120 (1.NBT.A.1).
